We are made up of an eclectic group of practitioners who believe that healing, growth, expansion, and wellness should not be limited to ‘one size fits all’ treatment.
We aim to inspire, motivate, and educate you on healthier habits that are essential to helping you function at your greatest capacity.
Our holistic and inclusive approach honors and welcomes each person’s unique journey of self-exploration and introspection (emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually). We treat and teach you highly effective methods that address your mind, body and spirit. It is our goal to lead you on your road to self-discovery, as well as healing on a holistic level. Our DNA, biology and life story require a more tailored approach, and at ITS, we work with each unique individual, treating all elements as pieces of a larger puzzle. In more recent years, support for mind-body actions for mental wellness has grown. There has been a shift toward the incorporation of healthy lifestyle choices, and Ancient Eastern healing methodologies.
Who we work with.
We work with adults, children, adolescents, couples and families. Our providers have specialized training in many areas, including: complex trauma, relationship counseling, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and children’s therapy, art therapy, play therapy, and animal assisted interventions, and allied services for LGBTQ+ community, as well as the under-served.
Where we work.
We work to fill the need for holistic and evidence-based therapy in the Lawrence-Topeka-Kansas City area, and throughout the state of Kansas through in-person sessions, groups, activities, and virtually.
What we provide.
We blend holistic methods into the larger treatment plan to improve outcomes. Our approach fosters a mind-body connection, which means to achieve wellness, all aspects of our being – mind, body and spirit, must be in tune. Our approach believes:
All systems are involved in treating the mental health issue, including the health, fitness, lifestyle, social and spiritual realms;
The mind becomes a tool for healing. Training the mind to direct thoughts away from those that cause distress and toward those that induce calm is key;
Making shifts in diet and activity can help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety and improve sleep quality;
Reducing stress – learning ways to relax takes practice, and is vital to thrive.

The tiny seed knew that in order to grow, it needed to be dropped in dirt, covered with darkness, and it had to struggle to reach the light. Like the tiny seed, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. We all experience hardships and dark times in life, but we can and do thrive and grow through them. I believe that our unique life’s journey affords us opportunities to change, grow, expand, and evolve.
My truest passion is to support, encourage and empower my clients to make necessary changes to improve their lives, and to cultivate a strong therapeutic relationship providing the necessary support to make those changes happen.
I believe in the interconnectedness of body, mind and spirit, and utilize mindfulness, psychoeducation, expressive art therapy, narrative therapy, brief solution-focused, strengths based, ecotherapy, and animal assisted interventions as primary modalities in my practice. I meet my clients where they’re at, and work to customize treatment and goals driven by each person’s unique dynamic and preferences. In the words of Steve Maraboli, “Love yourself enough to create an environment in your life that is conducive to the nourishment of your personal growth. Allow yourself to let go of the people, thoughts, and situations that poison your well-being. Cultivate a vibrant surrounding and commit yourself to making choices that will help you release the greatest expression of your unique beauty and purpose.”
I enjoy working with teens, young adults and adults who have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and sexual trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and grief/bereavement. I work to ensure that each of my clients feel safe, validated, empowered, and honored in our work together.
As Founder & Executive Director of the Loving Paws Animal Therapy Program, I believe in the healing power of the human-animal bond, and I incorporate certified therapy dogs in my practice to support positive client interactions, the creation of a calm and welcoming space and overall emotional well-being for my clients.

Clients come to me struggling with a depressed mood or trauma issues that they cannot solve on their own. Emotional struggles can be addressed through understanding the root cause and processing any blocks in the way of feeling content. I help clients find ways to their healing paths and enjoy working with all types of people with their struggles. I am especially drawn to survivors of trauma and enjoy collaborating with people to determine what types of treatment are most beneficial for them. I feel it is my role to empower you to discover what works best for you.
I specialize in working with survivors of trauma of all kinds, and have worked with survivors of abuse, as well as military personnel and first responders. I would like to provide a safe place for you to unload your burdens and together we can discover your path forward.
I am very aware of the negative effects that trauma and other mental health concerns can have on one’s life and I also believe that crises can lead to opportunities to make positive changes. Therapy is a collaborative process that happens between two people. I work to be honest, genuine and provide a safe and supportive space for healing.

I want to provide a safe space free of judgement to help you achieve a more satisfying life. Recovery is not linear, and that’s okay!
I have both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas. I am licensed at the Master’s level in Kansas and Missouri, with 3 years of experience working in crisis intervention, prevention, and management, with a focus on adults with mental health and/or substance use/addiction concerns. I am detail oriented, with great communication skills. I use a strength-based, trauma informed, solutions focused approach, while focusing on the whole person. I have skills in assessments; providing bio-psycho-social assessments to best understand my client’s needs and wants, and to be able to provide the best personalized treatment path. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Some of my previous experience comes from working at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a community mental health center, a home-health agency focusing on traumatic brain injuries and/or cognitive/behavioral disabilities, as well as a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) clinic for those struggling with opioid addiction and recovery. I plan to pursue my clinical license for social work, as well my Master’s level addiction counseling license, in order to further my knowledge and understanding on addiction and substance use issues.
My passion is to make you feel validated and empowered. I will meet you where you’re at, and together, we can help you gain control of your life again!
In my free time, I enjoy reading, journaling, yoga, going to the gym, and taking bubble baths, as well as watching Grey’s Anatomy and True Crime YouTube videos. A new hobby of mine has become learning to cook new meals that I haven’t tried before.

Sarah Rooney
Massage therapist, creative instructor
(she/her)
expressive / kinesthetic / sensitive
A long time ago, someone made me a funny little button that said, ‘Help me! I’m Sarah Rooney!’ So, I decided that this is my ‘meet the team’ personal introduction. It expresses both the humor and humility in being human. In being ... me.
If there was a master’s degree offered in the field, I would be a ‘Jane of All Trades’ (JAT); having enjoyed a life of creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning. I received a BA in Intercultural Communications with a minor in Fine Arts from the University of Kansas back in the day, but I believe my unique choices and life experiences after college were, and still are, my truest education.
I currently work as the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator for Visiting Nurses Hospice. I’m also a professional massage therapist and provide massage to Hospice patients and others as a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist.
I have been an Arts and Drama Coordinator for at risk youth in both Louisville, KY and Philadelphia, PA. I’ve also taught youth art classes for the Lawrence Arts Center and was a member of the travelling children's theater troop ‘The Seem To Be Players.’
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to travel abroad where I served in the Peace Corps as a Health and Nutritionist in Niger, West Africa. I then volunteered two years on an organic farm in Northern Ireland and later worked as an environmental activist in the Czech Republic.
I am wired to want to make things: whether it’s building a deck, painting murals, designing a chicken coop, making clay puppets or dumpster diving for found art materials - my spirit needs to create! I want to invite you to create with me!
I am NOT a therapist but I enjoy facilitating creative, hands-on therapeutic art activities that help participants explore, express and externalize their inner-selves through word, color, shape, form...and laughter.
